Due to their endearing nature and attractive appearance, Labradoodles have won the hearts of many dog lovers worldwide. The variety of coat colors that labradoodles come in is one of the breed’s most appealing features. Each coat type has its own special qualities and maintenance needs. 


Get to know the Different Types of Labradoodle Coats:

  1. Wool Coat

The ALD’s predecessor, the Labradoodle, is mostly associated with the wool coat. The name comes from its tight, curled poodle-like coat, which has a texture similar to wool. Given its minimal shedding, this coat type, along with the fleece coat,  is a favorite among allergy sufferers. Regular grooming is necessary to keep the wool coat from matting and tangling.


2. Hair Coat

Labradoodles with a hair coat exhibit a sleek and shiny appearance, reminiscent of their Labrador Retriever lineage. This coat type tends to shed more than wool or fleece. The hair coats usually requires less maintenance and thus less trips to the groomer. Ike the wool coat, it is usually seen in early generation dogs such as the first cross of a lab and poodle, as well as F1b, and F2b Labradoodles.


3. Fleece Coat

Australian Labradoodles fleece coats feel so plush and velvety in texture that it is irresistible to touch. Their softer and looser curls give them a gentle, wavy appearance that adds to their charm. Like their wool-coated counterparts, fleece-coated ALDs are favored by allergy sufferers for their minimal shedding and allergy-friendly  qualities. To preserve the gentle feel of the fleece coat and prevent tangling, regular brushing and grooming are imperative. Both the wool and fleece coats showcases a range of beautiful colors and patterns, making each unique and stunning.
